My Background
Born and raised in East Columbus, Joel has been a part of the Bexley community for decades. A graduate of THE Ohio State University and a member of the first Franklin University MBA graduating class, Joel is a lifelong Franklin County resident. Joel is a devoted husband, father, businessman and community leader.
My Top Issues
PROSPERITY
Ohio is making great strides in attracting economic development projects. While our economy continues to improve, we need to continue to attract and create more job opportunities for Ohioans. Ohio ranks in the Top 5 states for business entrepreneurship growth and the startup and small business sectors can pave the way for more prosperous opportunities.
EDUCATION
A strong Ohio is built on strong Education! Ranked 6th in technology and innovation, we need our schools to do a better job of teaching our future rising stars everything from basic financial literacy to technology literacy. We need to double-down on growing our skilled trades programs and ensuring we have the workforce to build infrastructure and service our statewide community. Rather than fixating on education merely meeting State standards, we need our educational institutions to focus on surpassing and over achieving those standards!
AFFORDABILITY
It's just not a catch phrase! There is no question that the American Dream is in jeopardy. My own children question whether they can ever see home ownership! Rents, Utilities, & Food Costs are rising disproportionally to income. Many of our local governments continue to tax residents out of their cities and at the same time are making everyday living unaffordable for those on a fixed-income. We need to get fiscal accountability back to Main Street in whatever city you live in!
My Involvement
SERVICE
I have often been asked what my greatest weakness is. While many would have a hard time answering this question, without hesitation my greatest weakness is the difficulty in saying "No!" If I can find the time, if I have ideas or if I know people that will help someone, some organization, some friend or stranger, I say "Yes!" Time is still our most natural resource and giving one's time to a worthy cause is perhaps the most rewarding and most important action we can do as members of a community.
